Network Administration

Synopsis

This is a technical workshop, made up of lecture and hands-on lab work to teach the skills needed to design, build, operate and manage any organisational network infrastructure according to current best practices.

Target Audience

Network enthusiasts, IT students, network/system administrators or technical staff from service providers and enterprises, who are involved in day-to-day network operation and planning.

These skills will in turn drive an increase in organisational network performance, security and reliability. In turn this will improve the day to day Internet experience of end users

Pre-requisites

– Reasonable knowledge of the OSI Reference Model and TCP/IP.
– Basic knowledge of IP Address.
– Participants are required to bring a laptop

3 –  Network Design Principles
4 –  IPv4 and IPv6 Addressing and Planning
5 –  Network troubleshooting Tips/ Hints

3 –  Switching Architectures: Advance L2
4 – L3 Switches
5 – Routing and Forwarding Basics
6 – Operation of OSPF Routing Protocol 

Day 3:

Certificate of Completion

Participants who successfully complete the 3-day workshops will be awarded a Certificate of Completion.

System Administration

Synopsis

This technical workshop is designed to teach require knowledge to setup and run Linux/Unix based System and its Administration and Security.

The topics that will be covered are: from the very basic to the professional level knowledge and the industry related best practices.

Target Audience

Entry level to senior technical and design staff of network operators or enterprise, who are involved in day-to-day server system or network operation and planning function. Also for final year/semester under-graduate and graduate IT students looking for employment.

Pre-requisites

– Reasonable knowledge of the UNIX/Linux command line environment
– Basic knowledge of TCP/IP networking
– Participants are required to bring a laptop

Day 1:

1 – Introduction to the workshop and its objectives
2 – Overview of sysadmin duties and responsibilities
3 – Basic Linux systems administration concepts and terminology
4 – Linux distributions and choosing the right one for your needs
5 – Linux Basics – working with Linux

Day 2:

1 – Package management and software installation
2 – Networking basics and troubleshooting in Linux
3 – Managing user accounts and permissions in Linux
4 – Backups and disaster recovery planning for Linux systems

Day 3:

1 – Monitoring in Linux
2 – Securing Linux
3 – Advanced Linux features and tools for sysadmins, such as shell scripting and automation
4 – Wrapping up and next steps

  • All participants are expected to bring his/her own laptop for the workshop. The event organizers won’t be able to provide any laptops. The laptop should be able to connect to the Workshop wireless network.
  • Basic knowledge of Computer Networks is required.
